Welcome!

I'm glad you're here. As a counselor educator, researcher, and servant leader, my work is grounded in a deep commitment to mental health, education, and meaningful connection. I’m passionate about preparing future counselors, supporting ongoing professional development, and engaging with the broader community through training, collaboration, and advocacy.

My approach integrates evidence-based practice with personal lived experiences to foster learning environments that are authentic, inclusive, and transformative. Whether through teaching, research, or outreach, I aim to create spaces where growth, understanding, and healing can take root.

I invite you to explore my work and connect if you're interested in collaboration, training opportunities, or conversations that move our field AND our communities forward.

I’m Syreeta, a proud wife, mom, and native of Newark, NJ, who was raised in Virginia (757)! I have a deep love for learning and storytelling. I wear many hats, survivor, scholar, counselor educator, and self-proclaimed nerd, with equal joy. As a woman who has journeyed through and beyond intimate partner violence, I’m passionate about long-term healing and helping other women not just survive, but truly thrive. I bring that same heart to my research and to the classroom, where I’m committed to training and developing the next generation of compassionate, competent counselors. When I’m not teaching or writing, you’ll probably find me curled up with a good psychological thriller or mystery, watching a movie, traveling (especially cruising), or dreaming up screenplays. You might even catch me out singing karaoke. I believe in the power of community, creativity, and lived experience to change lives. I’m here to be a part of that change.
